China consumed 405.1 billion kWh of electricity in September, up 2.9% year on year, according to figures released by the National Energy Administration on Wednesday.
Of the September total, electricity consumption by the industrial sector accounted for 278.3 billion kWh, up 0.9% year on year.
Over January-September, China consumed 3,688.2 billion kWh of electricity, up 4.8% year on year, according to the data. Of that, industrial electricity consumption accounted for 2,657.8 billion kWh, up 2.9%.
In the first nine months of the year, the working hours of China's coal-fired power units totaled 3,707, down 269 hours or 6.8% year on year; while the working hours of hydropower units totaled 2,788, up 416 hours or 17.5%.
At the end of September, the combined design capacity of China's power units -- each with an installed capacity of at least 6 MW -- rose 8.7% year on year to 1,063,460 MW. Of that, coal-fired power units comprised 787,440 MW, up 7.3% year on year; hydropower units accounted for 205,330 MW, up 7.1%; and nuclear power units represented 12,570 MW, up 5.6%.
